Mrs. Nielson

Kim Low-Nielson

I am proud to be the principal of Stony Creek Elementary in Littleton. Stony Creek is a school that has joyous classrooms, committed staff, and a supportive community. The students are welcoming, happy, and have a wonderful, positive energy. Our staff is committed to doing the very best to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.  We are highly collaborative and have high expectations of our students and staff.

My Career

I've spent my entire career in the south area of Jeffco. At the beginning of my career I was at Shaffer Elementary where I spent 17 years teaching 1st, 3/4 multi-age, 4th, and 5th grades. After that I became an instructional coach at Colorow Elementary where I deepened my knowledge about good instruction, developed my coaching skills, and learned about the importance of addressing the needs of the whole child. I stayed there for six years where, in collaboration with administration and staff, we earned the Governor's Improvement Award two years in a row. Before Stony Creek I was the assistant principal at Powderhorn Elementary where I developed leadership skills of an administrator, helped create collaborative structures within the school, and built strong connections with families and community groups.

My Family

On a personal note, I love to cook, read, watch movies, and hang out with family and friends. I am the youngest of seven and am very close to my family. I grew up in Jefferson County in Lakewood. I went to Patterson Elementary, O'Connell Junior High, and then Alameda High School. Go Pirates! I have been married to my high school sweetheart and we have two children. Bailey is our oldest who recently moved to New York to start her career and experience life in one of the most exciting cities in the world. My son, Carter, is attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins and is studying political science. All four of us went to CSU. Go Rams!

My Hopes

As a mother, I know how important it is to send your child to a school that you trust and that is doing everything possible to meet the needs of your child. In my role as principal, I will ensure that your children are cared for like our own children while thriving and discovering a love for learning.

Thank you for being a part of our Stony Creek community; I am honored to be your principal. Go Miners!

Best regards,
Kim Nielson
